SRIBS Attended 2025 CIB World Building Congress and Shares Academic Insights
From May 19 to 23, the 2025 CIB World Building Congress (WBC2025), organized by the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB), was held in West Lafayette, Indiana, USA. The event was hosted by Purdue University under the theme “Sustainable built environment – the role of the construction community in meeting the UN SDGs.” The congress aimed to bring together global experts from within and beyond the CIB network to exchange recent developments in building environments and sustainable innovation management.

As a Full Member of the CIB, SRIBS was invited by CIB President Makarand Hastak to attend the congress. Jiang Yan, Vice President of SRIBS, participated in the concurrent CIB Board Meeting, taking part in discussions on board re-elections and engaging with institutional leaders and representatives from fellow member organizations to explore future directions in the industry.

Key personnel from the SRIBS’ Operations Management Department also participated in the congress. Dr. Zhang Beihong and Assistant Researcher Sun Yuncan presented the SRIBS’ research achievements in carbon emission forecasting in urban buildings and low-carbon practices at the community level during the technical forums.

About the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB)
The CIB was founded in 1953. Since 2002, sustainable building has been established as one of CIB’s priority themes. Currently, the CIB operates 35 working commissions and 6 task groups covering areas such as spatial planning, construction safety, the built environment, BIM technologies, facility management, zero-carbon buildings, smart buildings, prefabricated construction, building economics, and infrastructure.
SRIBS Group joined the CIB in the 1980s and is one of only 10 Full Members worldwide. Over the years, it has collaborated with fellow members in advancing technological innovation for sustainable building and urban development. In July 2024, CIB CEO Don Ward visited the SRIBS, during which both parties reached a preliminary agreement on further cooperation in areas such as exchange visits, technical training, and expanding international influence. At this year’s board meeting, Professor Fang Dongping from Tsinghua University was elected as the 27th Chair of the CIB Board, becoming the first Chinese Chair in the organization’s 70-year history. His leadership is expected to further enhance the Council’s global impact in the construction industry.
